It all started when a friend of ours got his toddler, Bowie the perfect starter digital camera. High def, waterproof, user-friendly. There was just one problem – the buttons and even the camera itself were too small to work with comfortably. The friend asked us to create a grip to make the camera larger for him. When we asked the size he said “about the size of a HOLGA”
Once again we took it a little further than asked.
The shutter button and side buttons work well and the power button is accessible through the front. The camera power light is routed through the front of the main body, a 52mm lens filter threads on the front lens and the bottom accepts a 1/4-20 tripod mount.
We had our best results printing with the open back of the main body facing up and the texture facing up on the back door.
To get the texture to show up in the 3d print it had to be physically modeled, which was challenging on my 8 year old iMac to say the least.
These are for sale with the action camera on our personal website badcraftstudio.com by searching “Bowie” but half the fun of having a 3D printer is being able to print cool stuff, so please print away.
We used zUltrat pastel pink, pastel blue, pastel yellow, pastel turquoise, and neon red to print the versions in the photos. Many versions were sacrificed in the journey to a file that really works well in every way.
